Potential Labor Strike Impact on U.S. East and Gulf Coast Ports

December 21, 2024

Seabridge is closely monitoring the ongoing contract negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). If an agreement is not reached before the contract extension expires on 15 January 2025, a labor strike may commence, potentially causing significant delays and disruptions at U.S. East and Gulf Coast ports.

This situation could impact operations at key port hubs, including New York/New Jersey, Savannah, Charleston, Houston, Miami, and Port Everglades, with potential delays in container handling and vessel operations. Rail and gate services may also be affected.

Seabridge is committed to minimising disruptions to your supply chain. Our team is actively monitoring the situation and preparing contingency plans to keep shipments on schedule. These plans include exploring alternative routes, transport modes, and operational adjustments to mitigate potential delays.

We will provide timely updates as more information becomes available and will work closely with you to address any challenges that may arise.

For immediate concerns or questions, please contact your Seabridge account representative.
